چکیده

با نگاهی به تاریخچه پژوهش و کاربرد دانش بومی، فعالیت های پژوهشگران را می توان بر حسب موضوع به دو نوع مشخص تقسیم کرد: ۱) پژوهش روشها و ابزار سنتی برای کاربردهای فنی ۲) بازشناسی شناخت شناسی سنتی و ارزشهای فرهنگی و رسوم اجتماعی جوامع بومی برای کاربردهای فرهنگی و اجتماعی. در ابتدا، پژوهشگران دانش بومی بیشتر متوجه فنون و روشهای سنتی برای تخفیف لطمات زیست محیطی و بهداشتی ناشی از روش های صنعتی و شیمیایی در کشاورزی، دامداری، معماری و تغذیه بودند. اما در دو دهه نهایی قرن بیستم، تشدید لطمات زیست محیطی و بررسی عمیقتر مسایل توسعه، متفکران را متوجه ریشه های فرهنگی و اجتماعی این مسایل ساخت. لذا اخیراً شاهد تلفیق یافته های دانش بومی در روش های آموزشی مدرن، شناخت شناسی علمی و نیز در پایه ریزی الگوهای نوین برای اسکان و هم زیستی مردم بوده ایم. با توجه به تأثیر بنیادین و دراز مدتی که تلفیق جنبه های فرهنگی و اجتماعی جوامع سنتی با فرهنگ و جامعه مدرن خواهد داشت، بی شک ما در آستانه دگرگونی عظیمی در اندیشه جهانی قرار داریم. این دگرگونی عظیم، ابعاد وسیع تر و جامع تری را برای علم بشر نوید می دهد.

A historical review of the literature on indigenous knowledge indicates a gradual broadening of this field, starting from technical indigenous knowledge onto the cultural and social values and practices of local communities. This could be in part attributed to the increasing awareness of social scientists of the socio-cultural roots of today's environmental and other development - related problems. Of course, the research and application of the local technical know-how and the socio-cultural indigenous knowledge will continue for a long time to come, but the latter holds the promise of having profound impacts on modern education, epistemology and development of new human settlements. Hence, an increasing number of social scientists believe that these impacts will no doubt bring about a global mind change. This global change in perspective will surely include a new approach to science that is more holistic and inclusive.
